because my wife demanded it, here's page 24 of Permanent Residents, the comic i'm working on... no, my wife doesn't read the comic, but when she saw the leading man in this chapter, she SWORE it looked just like one of her relatives. anyways, i like this page a lot because it foreshadows some trouble on the horizon, but also has a pretty sweet moment as well, without being sappy, so it's a good one to share! so there you go...
finished page 2 of The World As You Know It: Permanent Residents, and chugging along. still haven't hit the stride i want to hit, but it will come. I'm actually pretty happy with this page, but i'm looking forward to the point where they start coming out faster. since this story has more spooky/scary elements than the last (it has a ghost story theme to it), i'm excited about getting to the scary parts. don't get TOO excited, it's not gonna be like Saw 7 or anything! it's still gotta be pretty tame to pass the client's standards (their biggest customers are school districts), but i think i can get it done in a way that's fun for me, and that they are happy with as well! the script is good (BIG plus!), so i feel good about it...
so i got sidetracked a little with all the artshows, Father's day, and all the other stuff (all of which i'm thankful for), but now i'm back to full steam on comics! this panel preview is from the freelance joint i'm workin' on for a major client (my 2nd assignment with them). expect more soon. i really like this client, and they like my work. hopefully, all goes well on their sales side so i can get tidal waved with more work from them! anyways, you can always see more by clickin' the tag TWAYKI below or on the sidebar...
i'm on to the next comic. this is for the same client. since they REALLY liked the digital drawing/coloring style, i'm sticking with it.if some of these characters look familiar to you, it's because this is a prequel/spin-off story from the one i drew for them this Spring (The World as You Know It, Vol 2)... this one stars some of the supporting cast from that previous story, but about 15 years earlier. this is going in a totally different direction, so don't sweat the fact that you haven't read the other one...
for those who didn't know, i finished my largest freelance assignment to date a couple weeks ago. it wound up being an 85 page long graphic novel with full color art and letters by me. i was very pleased with the accomplishment, and more importantly, so was the client! after taking last week to exhale, i started on the next assignment yesterday. i'm also working on several other projects, including getting the ghettoManga magazine back on track (begining with the summer issue). thanks to everyone who helped me stay motivated, and to all the readers who support my comics and this blog!
one of the downsides of being a freelancer is that you don't get sick days, so i've been drawing through my flu-like symptoms (which my doctor insures me are not Swine-Related) as much as possible, trying to knock out more pages and get to bed. i do take breaks to play with my daughter, watch teevee, read comics (and write reviews like this Kill Bill joint) etc. 
anyways, i made mad progress today, so yay me! So here's a couple panels from the comic i'm working on now. i'm about 2/3 finished with it, and completing pages much faster than when i started. as much as i appreciate the assignment (and the money!), i'll breath a big fat sigh of relief when it's done. it looks like i will be getting more work after this from the client, so i'm excited about the light i see at the end of this tunnel. oh well, i hope everyone had a good saturday! now i gotta get back to my orange juice and drawing board...
